Education for student and adult learners

Throughout the years I have developed various instructional materials and content based on curriculum from SMEs or that I designed to be used for student and adult learning

Asynchronous Course Design

What were the needs of an asynchronous course?

A needs analysis was completed on student skills and it was determined that students needed to experience an online asynchronous course prior to college due to the shift in college course offerings.

How was the course designed and developed?

The course was designed utilizing the curriculum that was established for the course and then developed to meet those standards.  The course was designed out using a storyboard and then e-learning content was developed that included reading of content, viewing videos, completing online activities, and assessments.  The learner was expected to go through the modules to gain knowledge, to experience knowledge to apply it to real world scenarios, and then complete a task to assess that knowledge.

What were the results?

Currently we are completing our 3rd year of this course being offered as a fully asynchronous online course after being a hybrid version for 2 years.  Throughout the course it has been proven successful as learners have moved through the modules with ease and completed the tasks with high marks.  Over the last years feedback from previous students have shown us that allowing students this opportunity has increased their soft skills such as time management, study habits and organization.

This is the first module for the course. It is important for learners to known where to begin to start the course and understand expetations

What was the purpose of these Content Materials?

For e-learning and virtual trainings, personal content materials were designed to help learners with obtain the required knowledge.

How were these materials created?

The designs were hand-drawn utilizing the Notebook App on an iPad.  The small videos was created utilizing Screencastify and the final video product was created in iMovie.

What were the results?

Learners enjoyed my personal touch and my creativity in breaking down a difficult concept to be understandable.  Learners who are more visual utilized the designs and images and learners who are more auditory utilized the videos more.  The overall results was a majority of learners were able to understand and explain themselves the concepts within limits to when and where they were learning.

Storyboard:
Lesson Plan

What was the purpose of This Storyboard?

The purpose of this storyboard was to outline and show the flow of activities throughout the lesson plan to maximize learning for the students.

How were these materials created?

The storyboard was created using Google Docs.  The worksheet and model activity directions were created in Microsoft Word, and the presentation was created in Microsoft PowerPoint.

What were the results?

Learners were engaged in the discussion and the hands-on activity and therefore did well on the formative worksheet to check for understanding
