"Blended Bootcamp"
What is "Blended Bootcamp"?
A full 12-week hybrid course designed through a learning management system that trained teachers how to design and develop their own courses in a hybrid format
How was it designed and implemented?
Blended bootcamp was a course designed, developed and implemented by myself and two other teachers after we completed the UCF Blended Designer Program. We completed a needs analysis for specific training for teachers on how to design and develop a hybrid course to improve technology use at the high school level.
A total of 3 cohorts completed the bootcamp with each finisher becoming a mentor for another participant in the next cohort.
An evaluation of the course was completed at the end of each cohort to determine if anything needed to be adjusted or changed prior to the next round
What were the results?
Initial results from each cohort resulted in several teachers being able to utilize the learning management system better to allow students to maximize their learning in a decreased amount of time.
Larger results were seen when March 2020 brought us into the “shutdown” phase of COVID19 where school buildings were closed and learning took place at home for the students. Multiple teachers from the cohorts were able to teach at an advanced level remotely compared to other teachers without the training. Most parents and students were pleased by the learning experience and outcomes at the end of the 2020 school year.

Zotero Workshop
What was the purpose?
Zotero is a free reference management software to manage reference data and related research materials. Zotero can be used by students to organize their reference materials with PDF reader and note editor, as well as generate in-text citations and bibliographies.
The purpose of this particular workshop was to set-up and train students on how to use and utilize the features of Zotero for their research papers.
What was Prepared Beforehand?
Because there was a need for students to download and set up their Zotero account prior to the workshop, I created a pre-workshop document with step-by-step instructions.
For the workshop itself I created a small google slides presentation with images to help be highlight areas within Zotero that would be helpful. During the workshop I projected the software and walked students through the software features which allowed students to view and follow, completing the steps themselves.
What were the Results?
Immediately the students responses were positive and feedback from the workshop called it useful and productive. Results at the end of the year when students submitted their 3,000 report showed an increase in correct in-text citations with no plagiarism issues to report.

Training Video
What was the purpose?
During the COVID shutdown in 2020 instructors were required to submit their students’ reports to our IB coordinator virtually. I created this video to train teacher on the process.
What tools I used for creation?
In order to capture my screen I used Screencastify to create different videos. I used iMovie to edit the videos, adding subtitles and headings. The video was then uploaded to YouTube.
What were the results?
Instructors were able to submit all the reports to our IB coordinator appropriately.
Hybrid Implementation Training
What was involved with the implementation of hybrid?
While working at a career college we were facing a problem with increased student population and limited space on campus. The decision was made for the general education department to move to a hybrid format, meeting with students face-to-face once a week with all other context and learning asynchronously online. This was something new to the student population as well as the general education teachers, but as the general education coordinator I saw the need for training for both students and faculty.
How it was accomplished
Prior to the start of classes I conducted several student trainings on hybrid formatted classes. These trainings included what hybrid meant in terms of class meetings, the benefits of hybrid (more flexible schedule), an introduction to the learning management system we were using (e-Campus/Blackboard), and time management and study skills tips for new to hybrid students.
For teachers, I provided training on how to set-up their courses in the LMS, how to determine progress of individual students, how to post assignments and the importance of discussion boards, and provided helpful tips on how to spot a struggling student early in the course.
What were the results?
Throughout the years the hybrid format became easier for both students and faculty to navigate, so much so that our population continued to rise due to the popularity of the hybrid program with its flexibility. To this day the campus is still running the program and trainings I created.
Time Management Workshop
What was the purpose of the time management workshop?
At the career college the majority of the student population struggled at traditional community colleges and universities. After analyzing the data collected as to the top struggles of being a student, I determined that time management was a large problem. The purpose of the workshop was to educate students on the skills of time management, the benefits of improving those skills, and some tips on how to help manage time through those newly learned skills.
How was the training designed and implemented?
I designed and developed a training workshop on time management skills. The main skills I focused on was utilizing a planner or scheduler, blocking off designated time specifically for studying, and planning for buffer or “oops” time when life got in the way.
The workshop included giving each student a weekly planner layout for them to fill out during the workshop to show them how to organize their time and to block off times that were needed in their schedule.
The workshop ended with a demonstration of the jar, golf balls, pebbles, sand and coffee analogy for prioritizing the important things in life. If you are unfamiliar with the analogy, please read here.
What were the results?
After advertising for the workshop for a week, the workshop had to be moved to another room to accommodate the large number of people who attended. A survey was completed and 92% of students stated that they learned something during the workshop. A month later another survey was sent out and 82% of students selected that they were utilizing at least one of the skills or tips learned in the workshop.
Company Onboarding and Continual training manual
What was included in the training manual
At the career college there was a lack of onboard training and continual training for faculty. After analysis it was determined that a training manual needed to be created at the college in order for consistency and transparency.
The manual included onboarding tasks such as paperwork, login materials, clock-in procedures, and a contact list. It was continually updated with procedures implemented throughout the year such as updates to rooms and schedules, attendance monitoring, program updates, technology availability and issues, and training guidelines on the use of the student management system (SMS).
How it was accomplished
I utilized Microsoft Word along with snipping tool to capture screen shots for imagery.
What were the results?
Within three months general education faculty were mostly knowledgeable on policies and procedures. Grades and attendance for general education courses were completed properly and on time that eliminated issues in other departments.
The workshops, manuals and training materials described above were created while employed at a company and therefore are property of that company and can not be shared to the public.
